Obama Retakes the Oath

Today, Obama said the oath again. Fer reals.

Chief Justice Roberts couldn't remember the oath on Tuesday (or he was nervous...or he did it on purpose as part of some Dick Cheney Darth Vader conspiracy). If you remember, he said it out of sequence and flustered Obama, who clearly had it memorized.

Obama would've become president at noon on January 20 regardless of being sworn in right at that moment or not. So a few words out of place don't mean he wasn't president yesterday (and yes, Fox News is already trying to spin it).

After the re-swearing in, Obama joked about going to 12 more balls.

The Constitution is clear about the exact wording of the oath and as a result, some constitutional experts have said that a do-over probably wasn't necessary but also couldn't hurt. Two other previous presidents have repeated the oath because of similar issues, Calvin Coolidge and Chester A. Arthur.

If you want to read exactly what needed to be fixed in the oath, more here.
